Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 1, 2026
In plain English
This Privacy Policy explains how Moneta, Inc. (“Moneta,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use the Monetawebsite and services (the “Service”). It applies to teachers and other adult account holders who use the Service.
1. Who we are
Moneta, Inc. is the controller of personal information processed through the Service. If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@moneta.school.
2. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information: your name and email address, and a password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider).
- Billing information: if you subscribe to Moneta Pro, your payment is processed by Stripe. We receive limited details such as subscription status and the last four digits / card brand — we do not store full card numbers.
- Classroom content you create: your class currency settings, student display names and auto-generated account numbers, balances, rewards, transactions, and any optional payment notes you write. You control this content.
Information collected automatically
- Technical and usage data: such as device/browser type, IP address, and log data used to operate and secure the Service.
- Cookies: strictly necessary cookies keep you signed in; analytics and marketing cookies are only used with your consent. See our Cookie Policy.
A note about student information
Students do not create accounts and do not access this site to manage money — teachers operate the classroom economy on their behalf. The student data stored is intentionally minimal (a display name you choose, an auto-generated account number, a checkout passphrase, and balances). As a teacher, you are responsible for using only the information you are permitted to use and for following your school's policies and applicable laws (such as FERPA and COPPA in the United States).
3. How and why we use information (lawful bases)
We use personal information to provide, maintain, secure, and improve the Service. Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on the following lawful bases:
- Performance of a contract: to create and run your account, process payments, and provide core features.
- Legitimate interests: to secure the Service, prevent abuse, and improve our product, balanced against your rights.
- Consent: for non-essential cookies and any optional analytics or marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: to comply with applicable laws, including tax and accounting requirements for payments.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers (sub-processors) that help us run the Service, under contracts that require them to protect it:
| Provider | Purpose | Privacy |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication, database, realtime sync, and hosting of application data. | Policy |
| Stripe | Processing Moneta Pro subscription payments. Stripe handles card data directly; we do not store full card numbers. | Policy |
| Resend | Sending transactional and account emails (confirmations, invites, notices). | Policy |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or in connection with a merger or acquisition (with notice where required).
5. International data transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) as required by applicable law.
6. Data retention
We keep account and classroom data for as long as your account is active. Some records are pruned automatically by the Service (for example, only a limited number of recent payment records are retained). When you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we remove or anonymize it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to meet legal obligations.
7. Your rights
GDPR (EEA/UK)
If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Erase your information (“right to be forgotten”);
- Restrict or object to certain processing;
- Data portability — receive your data in a portable format;
- Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent;
- Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
CCPA/CPRA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how we use it;
- Request access to or deletion of your personal information;
- Correct inaccurate personal information;
- Opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information; and
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is no opt-out to process — but if this ever changes, we will provide a clear opt-out mechanism here and honor Global Privacy Control signals. To make any privacy request, email privacy@moneta.school.
How to exercise your rights
Email privacy@moneta.school and we will verify and respond to your request within the timeframe required by applicable law. You may use an authorized agent where the law permits.
8. Data Processing Agreement (business customers)
If you use Moneta on behalf of a school, district, or other organization and require a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) — for example to meet GDPR Article 28 obligations — one is available on request. Contact privacy@moneta.school and we will provide our standard DPA.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encrypted transport and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for teachers and other adults. It is not directed to children, and students do not create accounts. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through the Service.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email and update the effective date above. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
